Full disclosure-I am 5’11 and 130 lbs soaking wet-I am and always have been pretty lithe. The last time I had continuous physical activity was 2010 when I fulfilled my graduation gym requirement. I have remained thin, but my physical activity has been reduced to mere walking around when I worked in the library. Yesterday, I decided to run around my block, a 3.28 mile loop, which was preluded with two full body pullups. I only was able to do 2 before my upper body tingled. I then went out for the run, and did a jog/walk/jog pace. I am now really feeling it. Sorta sad really.

Dude, you’ll be fit in no time at all. I’m 5’7 and 195 lbs mate, I can’t run 3 miles, but I can do pull-ups. Just keep up the good work and you’ll be fit as a fiddle.

3 miles is a pretty far run, try saving it for last next time and you should be able to do a little more upper body stuff.

I might be the oldest one in this thread - learn to be happy with yourself. I am a smidge over 6 feet, weigh 195 (fluctuates by a couple pounds) and by no means a bodybuilder. Still, that’s less than when I shaved off 45 pounds gained after a horseback riding accident. And my diet isn’t what you would call healthy. I just learned to be happy with whatever helped me get from one week to the next.

Rural living, maybe. Once around the block where I live is ~10km.

I am 5’10 and 135 lbs and I don’t think I can run even 1 mile...

I was just like you, my whole life I was thin and around 17 I decided to stop doing sports altogether, and all was fine until I turned 20 when I got fatter, really fast, without realizing. Start putting exercise in your routine, just a little bit, so you can maintain your current shape.

Given I am unemployed for the foreseeable future it will do me well to get back to health while I do nothing.

I feel your struggle.

I was 5’ 11” 110lbs my first couple years of high school. Luckily I met a friend who really helped me and got me in the gym. I was 170lbs freshman year of college.

I don’t think I’ve went more than a week without going to the gym since I first started. It’s a never ending battle to keep weight on.

Now a days I hover in the 150 range due to work and school. I’ve been losing an insane amount of weight since I started a new job. I’m to the point where I feel like just giving up and start buying smaller clothes.

Skinny =\= healthy. I used to weigh about 10 pounds more and was in pretty good shape. Now I barely excercise so I lost any muscle I had and got pretty unfit.

I've still got the same waist size as ever 29x32 jeans from 3 years still fit me. My goal is now upper body strength.

Haha, I’m a few inches shorter than you and weigh around 125 lbs - I haven’t done regular exercise since I was in my HS cross country team a few years back. Part of my inactivity is due to a sprained ankle and fracture that I sustained in one race, but I really should get around to running again and actually build some muscle mass in my upper body, LOL (I’m very skinny).

Holy hell that’s thin. 6’0” 190 lbs, 30 inch waist here. Even in high school when I hit full height I was 155...

My sister is doing XC and track this year and is 7 years younger and will need a practice partner. I'm sure it'll be symbiotic.

I like that you just went out and did the deed. Good to know how you stand. Note that 2 weeks of that would change the outcome of your results dramatically.

I see you’re 21. Gonna share my own experience - ymmv of course. I got what I’m about to say from rock climbing.

21 is still in the “if I want it, I can have it” age. Not things, your body. If you want more endurance, strength, fat, etc. you can have it, just by deciding you want it (with the activity required to acquire it.) The bod at this point in your life isn’t the limiter - it’s the enabler, you’re choices are the limiter. (This is not true lateron - enjoy this stage.) Sure.. its got a default based on how you live which might be different from someone else, but you can be skinny as shit and as strong [in the whole] as Mr. Workout if you want.

Like all things, it’s a choice on what you want to be. That doesn’t mean easy, or cheap, or fast, it’s just a choice of what you want.

I’ve always been slender with little upper body strength but always been good for running laps. I want that back and then bulk up a bit. It’s time to get going again when my hips and legs don’t feel like murder.

I’m only 5ft 7in and because I’ve been sitting on my arse for two years, I’ve slowly been piling on the pounds. Right now, I weight about 150lbs. I’m also rubbish at sports, especially swimming because of my scoliosis. These lungs are damn weak. I’ve been getting better, I actually used to have an uneven chest. I can dance for ages though, so there’s a plus.

As they say, pain is just weakness leaving the body... especially at 21. At 55, I’ve found the quote needs some tweaking.
